  1. Compost Workshop

    May 5, 2021, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Outdoor Organics Management at the MEEC! Even during a Pandemic approximately 40% of food is wasted in the United States. This means almost 30% of the solid waste we ship to distant landfills for expensive disposal consists of unwanted food and organic waste. There are ways to change this, beginning with smarter food production, preservation and distribution to food pantry donations to recovery of spent food as animal feed and compost. We will examine organics on a small scale at the Environmental Education Center and demonstrate principles of organics management that apply to households and businesses. Bill Cutler has been Sullivan County’s Recycling Coordinator in the Division of Public Works since 1990. He has a degree in Biological Sciences and Environmental Science and Geology. He is Sullivan County's resident herpatologist and VP of its Audubon Chapter. His programs are full of information and entertaining. Come see how easy it is to compost! Registration & masks required!
