1. Who's responsibility is it to schedule an inspection?

The contractor may schedule inspection on your behalf but the ultimate responsibility is the homeowners. The homeowner should make sure all inspections are scheduled and approved by the Building Inspector, including the final inspection for the Certificate of Occupancy/Compliance.

You can stop by the Building Department, located at 2948 State Route 209, Wurtsboro NY 12790 and pick up an application. You may also go to our web page and print out the application from there!

1. What will happen if you seek help?

The Albany County Juvenile Fire Setter Program (J-FIRE) begins in the family home with a discussion! This will involve an evaluation of the child to determine the reason for his or her fire play activity. Most often the reason is curiosity which typically can be handled by the J- FIRE counselor. Occasionally, an underlying problem is discovered which requires a follow-up course of action.

If such action is necessary, the County offers numerous programs and resources to assist the child and family. Regardless of the reason of the fire play activity, an educational program which clearly explains the consequences of such activity is presented to the child and family.

Most often, a single contact visit is all that is necessary. However, if additional help is needed, J-FIRE program staff will provide direction and referral to the family.

1. If I have a comment, question or concern about a Town department, should I call the Supervisor?

Yes, you may always contact the Town Supervisor. The Supervisor will then contact the department in an effort to resolve your particular issue. A better method is to contact the individual department head first so that your concern may be addressed immediately.

Note: The Highway Department has it's own Superintendent who is an elected official, and any concerns regarding roads should be directed to the Highway Superintendent directly.

2. Do I have to make an appointment to see the Supervisor or can I stop by?

The Supervisor will gladly see anyone who comes into the office if they are available. However, due to a very busy schedule it is best to call ahead and arrange for a time to meet with them.

3. What is the procedure for reserving a building or the pavilion at the Town Park for a private function?

Call the Supervisor’s Office with the date of the function and the building you are interested in renting. If it is available, a deposit must be provided to reserve the date on the calendar and an agreement must be signed.

1. When do I pay my taxes?

Taxes are collected at Town Hall from January to March each year. Starting in April, taxes can be paid at the Sullivan County Government Center. For more information go to our Tax Receiver's webpage.
