D and H Canal

D&H Canal Trail Closure

Please take notice that Orange & Rockland will be doing some work on electric lines along our D&H Canal Trail.

Due to the nature of the work we have to close the trail from Pennsylvania Ave to the back of Town Hall.

We will post when we can re-open this section of the trail as soon as we receive word.

The Delaware and Hudson Canal was built in the 1820s to bring coal from the mountains of Pennsylvania to New York City markets. It is preserved today in the Town of Mamakating as an historic linear park which spans the entire length of Mamakating. Hike the towpath and visit the remains of the canal locks.
