Join James van Gelder, at MEEIC as we learn the beauty and function of nature journaling. James is an artist and naturalist from Warwick, NY who has has been keeping a journal regularly since 2006. He is currently active with the Orange County Audubon leading field trips and doing birding presentations.
An illustrated Nature Journal is a combination of art, nature and science. It combines writing with images as a means of recording observations and stimulating inquiry.
Geared for all levels of ability- from novice to artist, we’ll use illustration as a tool for exploration- all that is needed is interest.
Examples of exercises include compare and contrast, and design a field guide entry. Students will be exposed to the materials and techniques especially useful for journaling, as well as books and other references.Paper, waterbrush and water soluable pen will be used.
